In 2021 we met Father John Dau when he was visiting with friends and supporters in Arlington Virginia. John is one of what are called the “lost boys” of Sudan, who fled for his life as civil war raged in his country.
Over the course of time, John graduated from seminary and became a pastor in the Anglican Church. He returned to what is now South Sudan and started Good Shepherd Academy (GSA), a school for Sudanese children, many of which never had had the opportunity to go to school because of the civil war.
As we talked with John we asked if there were any special needs for which he was praying. He said that he felt like God was telling him he needed to build a chapel where the children could worship and learn about the Lord. He told us that someone already had donated a number or steel beams that would support what he envisioned. As he talked, Céline felt God’s prompting to promise him that we would provide funding for that chapel.
In late 2021, we provided $17,000 for construction of the chapel. As of July 2023, construction has largely been completed with the exception of the roof, which has been delayed as the result of the construction workers contracting malaria.
We are believing the chapel will be completed by the fall of 2023. Please join with us in prayer for completion of the construction. We are hoping to visit South Sudan in 2024 to see and pray over the chapel!
